How She Speaks Became My “Welcome Back” Moment
Sometimes you don't realize how much of yourself you've put down until God places you in a room that starts pulling those gifts back out of you.
That was She Speaks for me.
Going into the conference, I had spent the previous seasons focused on other parts of my life and calling. I was mothering. I was pastoring. I was writing. I was building. And somewhere along the way, I had quietly put down parts of my coaching and Kingdom strategy consulting work.
Not because I stopped believing in those gifts. Life simply required something different from me for a while.
Then I walked into She Speaks.
I expected to learn, connect, listen and enjoy being surrounded by other women who were writing, speaking, leading and building. What I didn't expect was for God to use the women in that room to remind me of something I had almost forgotten about myself.
There was still use for those gifts.
Throughout the weekend, conversations began turning into mini consulting sessions. Women shared their ideas, businesses, books and dreams with me. We talked strategy. We talked clarity. We talked about turning what God had given them into something tangible.
And then something interesting happened.
They wanted more.
Women reached out afterward. They wanted to understand my framework. Some wanted to work with me. Others wanted help figuring out their next steps.
And I remember thinking, Wait...I know how to do this.
Actually, I know how to do this really well.
Sometimes God Calls You Back Out of the Cave
It reminded me of Elijah.
After one of the greatest victories of his ministry, Elijah eventually found himself hiding in a cave. Then God asked him:
“What are you doing here, Elijah?”
1 Kings 19:9
God wasn't finished with Elijah simply because Elijah had entered a quieter season.
And sometimes I think we can mistake a season of reduced activity for the end of an assignment.
But they're not always the same thing.
Some gifts rest.
Some gifts mature.
Some gifts become stronger because of everything we've experienced while we weren't actively using them.
She Speaks felt like God gently pulling me back toward parts of myself I hadn't been operating in for a while.
Not, “Start over.”
More like:
“Welcome back.”
Your Gift Didn't Disappear
Romans 11:29 says:
“For God's gifts and His call are irrevocable.”
That Scripture hits differently when you've lived enough life to experience seasons.
Maybe you used to lead.
Maybe you used to write.
Maybe you used to create.
Maybe you had a business idea.
Maybe you coached, taught, designed, organized, spoke, mentored or dreamed—and then life happened.
Motherhood happened.
Marriage happened.
Career happened.
Grief happened.
Healing happened.
Responsibilities happened.
And the gift became quieter.
But quieter doesn't necessarily mean gone.
Since She Speaks, I've found myself operating again in gifts I hadn't used fully in previous seasons. Coaching. Strategy. Helping women bring clarity to what they're building. Looking at someone's vision and helping them identify the framework underneath it.
And I've realized something:
God didn't waste the seasons when I wasn't doing those things either.
Motherhood added something.
Pastoring added something.
Writing added something.
Building added something.
Life added something.
I'm not returning to those gifts as the woman who put them down.
I'm returning with more to give.
The RYC Check-In: What Have You Put Down?
This is where I want you to think about your own life.
At Reclaim Your Crown, we talk about becoming Real. Yielding. Chosen. And sometimes reclaiming your crown isn't about discovering some completely new version of yourself.
Sometimes it's remembering the woman who was already there.
REAL: What gift, dream or part of yourself have you quietly stopped using?
Be honest about it without judging the season that caused you to put it down.
YIELDING: Ask God whether that gift was truly meant to end—or whether you've simply been in a season where it wasn't the priority.
Give Him permission to show you what still belongs in your life.
CHOSEN: Take one small step toward using it again.
Send the email.
Write the page.
Offer the consultation.
Pick up the camera.
Open the notebook.
Have the conversation.
You don't have to rebuild everything overnight.
Just respond to what God is awakening.
Because sometimes the room God places you in isn't introducing you to a new calling at all.
It's reminding you of the one you've been carrying all along.
She Speaks gave me that reminder.
I walked into that weekend expecting a conference.
I walked away realizing that maybe God was calling some gifts of mine back into active service.
And sometimes that's exactly what we need:
Not a reinvention.
Not another five-year plan.
Not permission from everybody around us.
Just one beautiful, unexpected moment when God whispers:
“I still have use for that.”
And perhaps He's saying the same thing about something inside of you.
